Rarely, do paintings just flow, but fortunately this one did! From sketching out the first attempt, which  was a bit too big for the size I desired, to fast sketching it on the Uart pastel paper, to pastel application this one was just fun. Besides the fact that these woodpeckers clear out my bird feeders almost daily, I do enjoy them being around.

Another in the series of capturing a moment in time from an unusual perspective. Distracted... could be any one of us at any given time.

I am thrilled that this painting is in the possession of a very talented artist. I was the recipient of one of his fabulous pieces of art as well! This artist taught himself to paint using his non-dominant hand following a stroke that robbed him of the use of his right side, his voice, and his ability to continue his practice in medicine. I had the pleasure of getting to know both he and his wife (who is also an artist in needlework) in Waco at the Brazos Fine Art show a couple of weeks ago. This was a fun painting, my first ever rooster! He lives at a feed store in town. When the decision was made that this would be the subject, his surroundings were my conundrum. Being a prisoner to the photo reference is a habit to lose. His surroundings of feed bags and cement just didn't suit his personality. So the feed bags and cement were left at the store.

These gorgeous hollyhocks lived in Estes Park, Colorado. They were in a small garden just outside of a storefront...so beautiful.

Surprise! I really am painting, just not as productive as earlier in the summer. This heat has been a killer lately.

The birds have been living in the birdbath! We cannot keep water in the thing. Looked out there today and there were 9 sparrows in it. Caught this little guy just after his bath earlier in the summer, you can almost see the water flying off his feathers.
