The baby cardinals are out and joining their parents at the bird feeders, just a fluttering, too cute! Decided to revisit this photo reference and make it a vertical instead of a square and change up the background. 

I am amazed that it has been about a month since I posted last. Have been working on a large watercolor painting and several more "Scenes from Above" pastels. Photos of those will be coming soon.

A fabulous artist and friend, Gaye Sekula, posted the photo reference for this painting on Facebook earlier this week. I commented that I saw a painting there and she encouraged me to paint it. What a fun subject matter! Such sparkle in the eyes and that bottom lip...love it!

Mama cardinal dropped by for a bite one morning and I was lucky enough to get the photo. They are here all day, all year long, but we have so many trees there are limited times that I can capture the moment with good lighting. Not complaining about the trees, we love them. Just can't get the best photo reference as easily.

Praying for more rain, the showers have been wonderful.

It is rare to have fall color in south Texas, but we have had a little this year. This is an example near our home. I wanted to title it, Oustanding in its Field, because it was the only one for miles---but thought that was a little hokey.

Getting ready for Christmas is really getting in the way of painting, that, plus we just returned from 4 days in Vegas!! We attended the National Finals Rodeo and it was awsome. Would really love to do a  painting series on the events of the rodeo, they are phenomenal atheletes. So..........maybe one day!

I was just a working away on this guy thinking about the 10 x 8 frame I was going to buy for him, thinking this is really sort of a big painting-----when, I stepped back and looked. Upon measuring, this painting is only 8 x 6! I have been working small for so long, 8 x 6's are looking big! Don't quite know how to respond to that, other than, "No wonder it was so hard to get the facial features right!!!!!"

Another wonderful thing about Italy is that people walk everywhere. This gentleman was on the outskirts of town, heading to 'la citta'. So glad that I was out that way also, to snap this shot. Shortly after seeing him, I met Katrina, a tourist from Sweden. We walked/visited for over an hour, until she had to meet an real estate agent. She was looking for a summer home!! She could fly to Italy in less time than it takes me to drive to Dallas. Can't imagine how wonderful that would be!

Billy G, (you know, billy goat), lives between Fischer and Blanco. First attempt at a goat, I do believe, and also, at the attempt to show contempt!

 

Really wanted to name it, "You lookin' at me?"

 

I have been invited to be a demonstrating artist at a fund raiser put on in Wimberley to benefit non-profit organizations in the area. Looking forward to meeting the wonderful ladies involved and sharing my art with them. Thank you, Rita, for the vote of confidence in my ability to do this.

 

 



I Finally Got to Paint!

I finally got to paint!!!! It was such a good feeling to pick up the pastels again. I worked on 2 pieces. The first was a variation of  the breakthrough painting I did in Marla Baggetta's workshop. It was a sunset variation, pretty fiery. It was my husband's fav. I may post it, but it is pretty wild!

This was taken from a picture I took on our first day in North Carolina. There were black and white cows off in the field to the left. That may be another picture--you know how I love to paint animals!
