This is the fourth in the series of rearview mirror paintings. Once again it is occurring in the Texas panhandle where there are plenty of wide open spaces! I just love how the reflection totally takes over the colors of the truck. There is not a bit of gold on that mirror, the evening sun just does that!

This was the scene one evening as I was heading home from the Gallerie at Gruene. Just had to give a try at recreating the splendor of the sunset. Fortunately, an art patron wanted it in their home!!

There is something about painting a vertical sunset. I just love them, maybe because they are unexpected, just as the colors of this sunset. It was so pale but with the wisps of clouds that really looked like they wanted to bring rain.......but, alas, it didn't happen.

Sitting here in the house sneezing and hating the gray/tan sky and clouds from the influx of Saharan Dust, I long to see the beautiful sunsets so predominate here. The dust is supposed to provide us with more colorful sunsets. It is just so thick right now.

Painting this subject is one of my favorites to create. I loved the clouds that almost seemed to be iridescent. This painting is available, contact me if interested.

Wow, are these crazy times or what????? Finding it difficult to concentrate on painting, as I have been making masks for friends and family. But as I scanned through my photos, I found there are a number of paintings that had not been posted.

So.....because of these stressful times,,,decided to start with this painting. One of the blessings of living in Texas are the BIG skies that we are blessed to enjoy. The reference photo was from an evening walk in my neighborhood.

We were blessed with gorgeous sunsets in February. Certainly prefer them to the gray, damp days we have had in March thus far. I loved the challenge of recreating the vibrant colors of those beautiful sunsets.

As always, life gets in the way of my creating art more often than not. Yesterday morning I was determined to get into the studio and put some pastel on paper. The previous evening this beautiful sunset was on display. Having taken a picture to capture the beauty of the moment, this would be the subject of the painting. This was one of those rare occasions where the painting just sort of appeared on the paper without much effort. Love when that happens and never ever take that magic for granted.

I have been working on a large watercolor for a week or two. I had forgotten just how slow I am with the watercolor process. It is taking forever......at least it seems that way to me. So, to see if I could even remember how......I decided to paint a sunset in pastel. 

Do not remember when the reference photo was taken, but I love the contrast of dark blue against the orange.

Was trying to get another painting in before Christmas, that wasn't a commissioned piece! I came across this desert photo in my photos. Always a sucker for a sunset, they can be so breath taking.

This was the scene that greeted me a month or so ago while walking my dog. It was just so gorgeous and I did my best to recreate it. There is this thing called, artistic license, and I took liberties to adjust my painting. You see, the entire lower right side of the scene was a paved road. Now that just wasn't very conducive to a lovely painting. I must have done ok because it found a new home today. Being in the Gallerie at Gruene these past months has been a great blessing!

There is never a shortage of subject matter when one paints the sky. If it isn't painting worthy, just wait awhile and all that will change. Texas sunsets are often breath taking! So fortunate to live here.

We have had some of the most exquisite sunsets lately.......hard pressed to do them justice, but I try!

Skyscapes have been calling me lately. The sunsets have been gorgeous, when the clouds have allowed us to view them. The sky is from an actual photograph, the foreground is all imagination. Now that may not be a big thing to you, but for me it is huge! I am a 'paint what is there' sort of artist.

If you have ever taken photos of sunsets, you may know that usually the foreground is all dark, not too interesting. I was determined that would not be the case with this painting. When the photo was taken, I made a point of comparing the the foreground colors in comparison to the sunset. They were beautiful, muted, but gorgeous. There were homes in the foreground not a stream!

So 'After the Rain' is the second version of this sunset. The first version is below. I was pleased with the foreground, but decided that the square version should have an even more interesting foreground.

It has been  a long time since I have worked on the sky series that was begun last year. There has been no shortage of subject matter, just shortage of my desire to paint skies in the series (small)! Then my husband sent me a photo of the sunset taken as he was leaving the Valero Open in San Antonio last night. It was the nudge I needed.

Such brilliant colors often look surreal, but I painted what I saw. When he sent the photo, I ran out to see it for myself------gorgeous!

Finally, getting back to the sky series. It has been a long time. I have been continuing to collect photos of skies, but just couldn't get in the mood to paint them.

This sunset is a favorite and might become a larger painting  one of these days.

Since I have been getting my art “out there” at the encouragement of my family, I have struggled with promoting myself. Just wasn’t raised that way, what can I say? But something happened yesterday that touched me and I felt that I should share it. So bear with me, please.

You may or may not have known that I had been a member of the Wimberley Fine Arts Center, an artist collaborative, since May. It was a great group of artists, so very talented. I was honored to be invited to join and experienced a fair amount of success with sales of my art. But even with that, I still felt uneasy promoting the fact that I was a part of the group.

Well, the group lost their lease and disbanded the end of November. I was invited to stay in the gallery (along with 4 other fabulous artists, Jim Street, Carolyn Pittman, Shelley Esser and Margi Uniacke) and display art as part of Pitzer’s Fine Art, a gallery that represents a variety of fine artists. I was thrilled to get a call from Rob Pitzer Saturday that this painting, Sunset, had sold! Still I didn’t feel comfortable, telling anyone that my art was hanging at Pitzer’s Fine Art, that is, until yesterday. I took more paintings to the gallery to fill the void created by the sale. While there, Rob introduced me to a gentleman in the gallery as a former member of the artist collaborative, who is now a part of Pitzer’s Fine Art. Did you catch that? Rob, who represents well known artists from across the country, introduced me as ‘part of’ Pitzer’s Fine Art. If he can say it, I think I should be able to also!

So..... this Saturday evening is Winter's Fest, as well as Art Stroll, in Wimberley. A wonderful time to get in the Christmas spirit and enjoy some lovely art. Hope to see you in Pitzer's Fine Art Gallery, where I am privileged to show my art!

Well, really wanted to post this last night but I didn't check my photo in time. It was blurry and it was too dark to get another good photo. So I really did paint 2 skies in 2 days, but no skies today. Had to get ready to host guests to watch TAMU football---priorities, you know!

I have been amazed at the beautiful clouds the last couple of days, so majestic. Can't drive down the road without pulling over to snap a pic. And the sunset last night was gorgeous---but I didn't have my camera.

The first painting was posted on Daily Paintworks the same night that I posted it here and it got a bid on it. Maybe my friend is on to something!!! Thank you!!
