Just a Sip...

Just a Sip...
6 x 8, pastel

Such a treat to have the camera at hand when the sun and the cardinals hit the bird bath at the same time! A very rare occurrence.

This painting is one of three paintings hanging at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery through this month. The venue is the Artist of the Year Show. I am pleased to have received the Honorable Mention #1 for my entries. Very nice comments from the judge, thank you!

Mountain Laurel Spring

Mountain Laurel Spring
6 x 8, pastel

Decided to take a few photos of the last of the blooming mountain laurels. They were so beautiful and smelled so wonderful this year. So as I positioned the camera. this visitor decided to just barge in. It didn't matter how close I got, he didn't budge. So enjoyed the opportunity that the serendipity of the moment provided. It is the little things that can bring the most joy sometimes.

Such a good day, our youngest had a snowboarding accident Christmas eve, and received wonderful news today. This second CT scan showed that the damage is not as severe as the MRI had shown. Yippee, for him!! This means that the recovery will not be as long as originally thought. The Lord IS good, guess that should be with a capital G!

So to celebrate I thought I would post a painting that I have been working on a few days. This is my niece's cat. I just put my phone down to her level and began snapping photos. Curiosity got the best of her, and this up close and personal shot was the result!

Austin Pastel Society Annual Juried Member Exhibition

Majesty
6 x 8, Pastel

My, my it has been a long time since I have posted anything. Once again life is just getting in the way, but it is wonderful to be able to get back in the posting groove with good news.

Some of you may recognize this painting. I did post it months ago under another name. I renamed it and submitted it in the 2014 Austin Pastel Society Annual Juried Member Exhibition. I am thrilled to report that this painting and one other has been accepted in the show, juried in by judge Clayton Beck III. The show will hang in the Corridor of Art, 700 Lavaca St., Lower Level, in Austin Texas. The show is open to the public during business hours, weekdays only from March 3 to April 25, 2014. Fifty wonderful paintings will be on exhibit, hope you can get by and check them out next month.

The other accepted painting will be posted soon!

Lucky

Lucky
6 x 8, Pastel

Man, it was good to get to paint yesterday! You know I have been trying to be looser, more painterly in my style---I failed royally in the loose department with this one. But now really, can a squirrel this up-close-and-personal be loose? You've got to see those whiskers, hairs, and gleam in the eye! I labored several hours on this one, thinking at one point I was going to have to get the wet rag out and wipe it off--but I didn't. Oh, the name Lucky----well, he is still running around the yard!!!

I painted a landscape after I painted Lucky, got a little closer to the style I have been striving for. It may show up in a later post.
